    Art on a Cloudy Day

Some days we forget who we are.

    Things are cloudy.

Our minds are littered with debris of forgotten dreams, unmet goals, uncertain desires, misguided priorities. Not to mention everything to be done between the start of the day and its end.

Some people call these days a “funk.”

I’ve noticed something in my new practice of doing the work (writing) every day : it’s helping me work through the funky ones.

I’m flighty. Highly distractible with a mind that fights for focus every second. I’ve also dealt with melancholy most of my life. I have a lot of cloudy days.

Being grounded in the work, the practice of art, is even at this moment, helping me work through a funky day.

There exists a more serious kind of funk, though. The kind a friend recently shared with me about.

When you feel as though dementors (if you don’t understand Harry Potter language, go look it up)-something- is very literally sucking the life out of you. You’ve somehow stepped into a world devoid of color, of meaning, of joy.

There are days when something’s off.

Then there are days when something’s OFF.

These are the days you may want to check in with yourself.

Your spirit is prompting you to look in, to sit with it and listen.

My question for you is, how do you answer it?
